Elephant Havens near the Okavango Delta is Botswana’s only elephant orphanage, dedicated to rescuing orphaned and abandoned calves and easing human-elephant conflict. Caring for young elephants is no small feat. They are incredibly vulnerable and require bottle-feeding every three hours, along with constant emotional support; caretakers stay by their side day and night. The ultimate goal is to raise and gradually reintroduce them to the wild, giving these orphans a second chance. Visitors can join daily tours at 9 AM and 4 PM, offering a one-hour, behind-the-scenes look at the orphanage. Expect a close but respectful encounter with the curious youngsters, learn about their behaviour and, if they’re in the mood, watch them wander over for treats and a photo or two.
